The Himalayan Kingdom of Nepal too offers a great wilderness experience. The landscape of this fauna rich region ranges from the Terai grasslands to alpine forests and the high-altitude desert which is part of the Tibetan plateau. Similar to wildlife found in northern India there is a huge diversity here to explore.

There are 208 mammal species reported. Among the several species of mammal found in Nepal, notable are the Bengal fox, Bengal tiger, clouded leopard, corsac fox, One horned rhinoceros, Asiatic elephant, marbled cat, Indian Pangolin, Chinese Pangolin, red panda, snow leopard, Tibetan fox, and Tibetan wolf. Some of these, including the internationally recognised snow leopard are endangered and at risk of extinction.  There are several different types of reptile native to the country, ranging from pit vipers to monitor lizards. With over 900 species of birds Nepal offers excellent opportunities for traveling ornithologists.
